Chapter 175
Victoria lowered her voice and whispered to Evelyn, "I just caught a secret affair in action." Evelyn arched a brow, disapproval flashing in her eyes as she shook her head. "I didn’t realize you had a habit of eavesdropping."
"What’s with that tone? Don’t judge me!" Victoria huffed, crossing her arms. "I only paid attention because it involves someone connected to you. Why would I care about random people? And trust me, it wasn’t a pretty sight."
Evelyn blinked. "Connected to me?" She pointed at herself.
"Your ex’s current girlfriend. Doesn’t that count?"
Evelyn’s expression remained blank for a second before realization dawned. "You mean Vanessa?"
Victoria nodded. "Unless you’ve got another ex I should know about?"
Evelyn sighed. "What exactly did you see?" She wasn’t particularly interested, but Victoria’s excitement was contagious.
"I had a stomachache, so I was in the bathroom for a while. Then, someone rushed in and started throwing up—"
"Get to the point," Evelyn cut in, exasperated. She’d never noticed how much Victoria liked to drag things out.
"I’m getting there!" Victoria tapped the table impatiently. "At first, it was just someone being sick. But then I heard a man’s voice. I was about to call security when—bam!—they started kissing right outside the stall!"
Evelyn processed the information. "So, Vanessa was the one throwing up, and the man with her was Lucien?"
Victoria’s jaw dropped. "Damn! How did you guess? I thought I was the only one who knew!" She looked genuinely shocked, her moment of triumph deflated.
Evelyn shrugged. "Lucky guess."
"Lucky guess?" Victoria scoffed. "Why didn’t you say Dominic instead?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Dominic was sitting right in front of me. And you said it was a secret affair. If it were him, it wouldn’t be much of a secret."
"Fair point," Victoria conceded, then narrowed her eyes. "But how did you know it was Lucien? Could’ve been anyone."
"First, he’s the only one Vanessa’s been cozy with. Second, they were acting weird at the event yesterday. I had a feeling something was up, but it’s not my business."
"So, I’m the only one who cares?" Victoria pouted.
Evelyn smirked as she stood. "At least you got free entertainment."
"Ugh, it was disgusting!" Victoria called after her. "Where are you going? Not back already, are you?"
Evelyn waved without turning around. "Something came up."
She had seen Alexander leaving earlier, and he’d texted her. She wanted to catch him before heading back.
"Meeting your boyfriend again?" Victoria teased.
Evelyn ignored her, already halfway out the door.
